Thenmala is a the first planned Eco tourist center in India. It is near Punalur town in Kerala on the Kerala – Tamilnadu border on the Western Ghats.

Important facilities at Thenmala are Boating, rope bridge walking, trekking in the mountains and musical fountain.

Shenduruney Wildlife Sanctuary in Thenmala is famous for its wild animals. There is a dear Park also.

There is an Elevated path which originates from the deck plaza and passes through the canopy of large trees which ends up in the old Shenkottah road. This walkway provides an aerial view of  whole area including the flora and fauna. Listen to the songs of the wind and birds, its melody, while walking through the elevated walkway!

It is in the Kollam District of Kerala and is 72 Kilometers from the capital of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuarm.  Thiruvananthapuram International Airport is the nearest one. Punalur station is the main nearest station (on meter gauge line  now being converted to broad gauge line). Quilon and  Chenganoor are the nearest stations on the broad gauge railway line.

Pathananthitta, the nearest district headquarters (of Pathanamthitta district), at 39 kilometers is the major town near by. Another major town Kollam, which is the district headquarters of Thenmala, is at 48 kilometers away. Pahanamthitta homestay at Pathanamthitta is available for tourists which offers best staying facilities nearby at affordable rates.

A few km from Thenmala is the Kerala – Tamilnadu border with its superb view of river, greenery and the scenic railway line.
