Tipeshwar Wildlife Sanctuary

Tipeshwar Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Yeotmal alias Yavatmal district, Maharashtra state, India. This wildlife sanctuary is known for its picturesque landscape.

This Wildlife Sanctuary is spread over an area of 148.63 square kilometers. The wildlife sanctuary is part of Pandarkawad Forest Division. Patanbori Range and Parwa Range of forests forms the wildlife sanctuary. It is on the northern border of the state, adjoining Adilabad district of Telungana state. The sanctuary got is name from ‘Goddess Tipai’, situated near Tipeshwar village, inside the sanctuary.

Tipeshwar Wild Life Sanctuary is rich in flora and fauna. Teak trees forms the majority of vegetation. The sanctuary is also rich in Herbs. Bamboo forests are also seen as undergrowth in teak forests.

Fauna includes endangered endemic spices. 29 mammals species including some of the endangered species like Tiger, Panther, Sloth Bear, Pangolin, Jackal, Four Horned Antelope, etc, are found here. Since Tigers are also seen here, the sanctuary is also called Tipeshwar Tiger reserve.

Tipeshwar Wildlife Sanctuary is home to 6 endangered reptile species. More than 180 bird species belonging to 46 bird families are found here. 9 species of endangered birds, including the peafowl, are found in this wild life sanctuary.

How Do I Go to Tipeshwar Wildlife Sanctuary?

The road access to Tipeshwar Wildlife Sanctuary is through Pandharkawada. The district headquarters, Yeotmal which is also spelt as Yavatmal, is at around 75 kilometers from the wildlife sanctuary at Tipeshwar.

Tipeshwar Sanctuary is at a distance of around 35 kilometers from Adilabad Railway station, the nearest railway station in nearby Telungana state.

Amravati railway station and Badnera railway station are at around 165 kilometers distance from the wildlife sanctuary.

Nagpur airport is at around 172 kilometers distance from Tipeshwar wild life sanctuary.

Mumbai is at a distance of around 850 kilometers from Tipeshwar Wildlife Sanctuary.

Best Season to visit the Wildlife Sanctuary is April and May.
