Chandipur Beach, Abdul Kalam Island, Horseshoe Crabs

Chandipur Beach is a famous beach on the Bay of Bengal coast, known for Beach resorts. The water recedes by 5 kilometers during low tide, which helps the bio-diversity of the area and home to a large number of Horseshoe crabs. This beach is a unique beach. Unique because, the beach may not be there during the high tide. Chandipur is situated in Baleswar District of Odisha state in India.

This Beach and its surroundings are spread over an area of around 51.330 acres or 0.20773 square kilo-meters. Chandipur is also known by names ‘Chandipur-on-sea’, as well as ‘Chandipur on sea’.

Ministry of Defence’s Integrated Test Range for missiles is situated here at an Abdul Kalam Island, which was formerly known ad Wheeler Island.

Budhabalanga River meets Bay of Bengal and the confluence of the river and sea can be seen near Mirzapur, not far off from Chandipur Beach.

Devkund Waterfalls, Nilgiri Jagannath temple, Emami Jagannath temple, Panchalinegeswar, Khirachora Gopinath temple, etc, are some of the nearby tourist attractions.

How Do I Go to Chandipur Beach?

Chandipur Beach is at a distance of is 16 kilometers from Balasore railway station; the nearest railway station. There are buses, autos and taxis available from Balasore. National Highway 16 connects the beach town of Chandipur with other parts of the country,

The nearest airport is at Kolkata, at a distance of 204 kilometers. The other major airport to the beach is situated at Bhubaneswar city. The Temple City of Bhubaneswar is at a distance of 294 kilometers from Chandipur Beach.
