Kurusura Submarine Museum

Submarine Museum at Visakhapatnam, in Andhra Pradesh, India is one of its kind in South Asia. The Museum is set up on the decommissioned Indian Navy Submarine, INS Kurusura. Hence the Museum is also called Kurusura Submarine Museum.

The submarine ship including its weapons were hauled to the Bay of Bengal sea shore and mounted on a concrete platform at Gajapathi Raju Marg on the Ramakrishna Beach Road. The Museum was opened to public in 2002.

INS Kursura was commissioned in 1969 at Soviet Union. After 31 years of service, INS Kursura, an India Pakistan war participant, was decommissioned in 2001.

There are six guides and one curator, who are ex-Navy staff, who will explain the Submarine’s history and activates to the visitors to the Museum. INS Kursura participated in the Indo Pak War 1971. The Museum is a must-see museum for any visitor to this port city of Visakhapatnam. The submarine is still getting “Dressing Ship” honour from Indian Navy, which is normally awarded to active ships only.

Kurusura Submarine Museum is located at Gajapathi Raju Marg on the Ramakrishna Beach Road, near the beach at Visakhapatnam. The city is well connected by road, rail and air connectivity to other parts of the country. Visakhapatnam railway station is the nearest railway station to INS Kurusura Submarine Museum. Visakhapatnam International Airport is the nearest airport.

What are the Timings of Kurusura Submarine Museum?

The Submarine Museum is open from 4.00 PM to 8.00 PM, on all days except Mondays. On Sundays and public holidays, the museum is open from 11.00 AM to 1.30 PM.
