Gokak Falls in Belagavi District

Gokak Falls is beautiful waterfall on Ghataprabha River in Belagavi district of Karnataka state, India.

Gokak Falls resembles Niagara Falls, on a smaller scale. The falls at Gokak takes a leap of 171 ft, over a sandstone cliff. During the monsoon season, the roar of the falls can be heard from a long distance. There is a hanging bridge across the river. with a length of about 659 ft, at a height of 46 ft above rock bed.

On either banks of the rocky gorge near the Gokak Falls, you can see monuments from the Chalukya era. A very old river-front temple dedicated to Lord Mahalingeshwara, is another nearby tourist attraction, There is an electricity generation station, which was started in the 18th and is abandoned now.

How Do I Go to Gokak falls?

Gokak falls is at around 6 kilometers from the Gokak town. State government buses are available from Gokak and Belgaum towns to the Gokak Falls. Gokak falls is a must see Belgaum tourist places.

‘Miraj junction’ railway station on Central Railway is the nearest major station and is well connected to major cities of India.

Gokak-Road’ Railway station, where only passenger trains stops, is the nearest railway station at around 9 kilometers from Gokak city. ‘Ghataprabha’ railway station, where express trains stops, is at around 15 kilo meters from Gokak city. Both these stations are on the Miraj-Belgaum-Hubli railway route. Belgaum, is another major railway station, at around 70 kilometers from Gokak city. Belgaum is well connected by roads to other parts of India.

July – October, after the onset of Monsoon rains, are the ideal months to visit the Gokak Falls.
