Gauchar

Gauchar is a Hill town in the left bak of river Alaknanda in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand state in India, well known for its annual trade fair.

Gauchar is at an altitude of 800 meters above sea level, en route to the holy temple town of Badrinath and is a place of halt for pilgrims to Badrinath. This place is surrounded by seven hills and is located on the mountainous regions of the state of Uttarakhand, in one of the largest pieces of flatland.

Gauchar Mela (annual trade fair) is one of the largest trade fair in the state of Uttarakhand. Traders and merchants from all over the state and other parts of the country take part in this trade fair.

Bhairavnath Mandir, Raul Devta Mandir and Mata Kali Temple are some of the places worth visiting in this small town. There is a Kendriya Vidyalaya (Sentral School) in this town.

Gauchar is well connected by roads to other parts of India by NH 58. Rishikesh is the nearest railway station at around 235 kilometers distance from Gauchar. Jolly Grant airport. Dehradun is the nearest airport at around 400 kilometers distance. (There is an airstrip at Gauchar which is used for emergency services.)
